Village of Love
Details
February is traditionally the month dedicated to Love. But there is one place more than any other where Cupid loves to strike the hearts of lovers: Morro d’Alba, the small Marche village famous for its Lacrima wine, but also for the ‘La Scarpa’ Rampart Walk, an evocative covered portico that traces the entire perimeter of the castle, from which you can observe the Marche landscape, capable of captivating the hearts of all who cross the threshold of its medieval walls with charm and magic.
The Village of Love, the unmissable event that transforms the Lacrima wine town into the capital of seduction, will take place this year for a single weekend from February 14th to 16th, 2025.
The 2025 edition is special due to the reopening of the Rampart Walk itself, following a restoration that lasted several months.
The event program therefore aims to enhance the cultural, artistic, and architectural heritage, providing the opportunity to enjoy unique experiences, discover hidden art treasures, and immerse oneself in an atmosphere of romantic seduction.
On Friday, February 14th, the day traditionally dedicated to Valentine’s Day, and throughout the weekend, the village’s restaurants will let tradition and taste intoxicate the senses and stir emotions.
In the evening, Cupid’s arrows will fly thick and fast at the wine shop in the heart of the historic center for “Di Wine Love,” a sensory journey that combines local gourmet products with excellent wine, suggested by a Sommelier. This is an unmissable event, starting at 6:00 PM. Reservations are recommended at 347 057 9005.
On Saturday, February 15th, at 11:00 AM, the highly anticipated reopening of the ‘La Scarpa’ Rampart Walk will be the event that kicks off a day full of surprises. With the collaboration of the historical re-enactment association Armati dell’Antica Marca, visitors will be transported back in time through medieval dances, duels, and romantic melodies, in an itinerant show that will traverse the village’s symbolic monument following its months-long restoration. Free admission.
In the evening, emotions will intensify with the Erotic Author’s Reading. The show dedicated to the reading and interpretation of the most captivating texts in erotic and sensual literature returns. Classic pages and modern authors will be interpreted by the seductive voices of Francesca Rossetti and Paolo Brugiati, held in the Castle Underground areas.
The show has two entry slots, at 9:15 PM and 10:15 PM, and will begin and end, for each slot, with a toast featuring Lacrima wine or Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio from the local Wineries.
Admission is €5, including the wine tasting. Seats are limited, and reservations are recommended at 328 5487491 (Cultural Department).
On Sunday, February 16th, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the secrets of the village will be revealed to art and history enthusiasts in a guided tour through the castle alleys: from the ‘La Scarpa’ Rampart Walk, unique in Europe and newly restored, to the Castle Underground Areas (Utensilia Museum), where the Mario Giacomelli photographic exhibition is set up, to the prestigious Santa Teleucania Auditorium with the exhibition La Fleur Blanch, inspired by the elegance and seduction of the Belle Époque, by the Ancona-based photographer Antonio Calosci (Anthony McHalosh), and the Council Hall-Art Gallery, which houses the precious canvas by Claudio Ridolfi (1630) and the exhibition Maschere Eroi e Commedia (Masks, Heroes, and Comedy) with works by Enzo Cucchi.
During the tour, two local wines will be tasted, in a fusion of art and wine that characterizes the village and the lands of Lacrima and Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio.
The experience is also interesting for children, who will be provided with educational play material at the start of the tour to learn about the village and its treasures.
Cost is €8 per person (children €5), including the guide, entrance to the exhibitions, and wine tasting. (Mandatory reservation by 10:00 AM on February 16th at 328 5487491 – Cultural Department).
In the afternoon, at 5:00 PM, in the splendid setting of the new public wine shop, located in the 18th-century municipal palace, “DiVINI SENSI” returns. This is a journey through the pleasure and scents bestowed by Bacchus’ nectar combined with chocolate and sensual opera, designed to enhance all the emotions born from the union of taste and soul. The poetic readings will be interpreted by Samantha Della Bella. The tasting will be guided by the Morro d’Alba Wine Shop Sommeliers and will feature the intoxicating meeting of four wines with chocolate. Participants will receive a complimentary tasting glass. Seats are limited, and reservations are recommended at 347 057 9005. Cost of the experience (with complimentary glass) is €15.
The event inaugurates the season of “Borghi In Versi” (Villages in Verse), the calendar of events dedicated to poetry, organized by the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy Association in the Marche region.
Not to be missed during these two days dedicated to love and sensuality is the exhibition La Fleur Blanch, inspired by the elegance and seduction of the Belle Époque, by the Ancona-based photographer Antonio Calosci (Anthony McHalosh). The exhibition recalls vintage erotic postcards, recreating the sensual atmospheres evoked by the great painter Henry De Toulouse-Lautrec. Set up in the prestigious Santa Teleucania Auditorium, it can be visited on Saturday and Sunday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, from Saturday, February 8th to Sunday, February 23rd, and on other days by reservation at 328 5487491 (Cultural Department). Free admission.
In addition to the events, the entire village will be the stage for an unforgettable romantic experience.
The ‘La Scarpa’ Rampart Walk, finally reopened to visitors and enveloped in music, will be the ideal refuge for lovers and more. The romantic and musical walk will be accompanied by the suggestion of a breathtaking landscape, where the gaze wanders from the Sibilline Mountains to the Adriatic Sea and Mount Conero.
At the entrance to the Rampart Walk, the “Kiss Sign“, designed by the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy Association in the Marche region, suggests ‘La Scarpa’ as the perfect place for lovers to exchange the most natural gesture of love. At the “Talk to Me of Love” selfie corner, small cards with poetic phrases will help visitors find the right words for a declaration. The same location will feature a special bookcrossing dedicated to Love.
Local businesses will also contribute to creating the atmosphere. At each participating sales point, alongside shopping, visitors can find a jar with notes bearing dedications of love. Among these, some special notes offer the chance to receive a surprise prize. You can also participate in the “Thoughts of Love” contest by filling out the appropriate card. A jury will choose the most beautiful entry, and the author will win a tasting for two people at the new Morro d’Alba wine shop.
The village is full of romantic corners and enchanting medieval views, enhanced by Light Design installations. As the lights go down, “the sign,” the luminous installation highlighting the Stele with the graffito by Maestro Enzo Cucchi, is visible in the center of Piazza Tarsetti. Near the ‘La Scarpa’ Rampart Walk, at the right entrance, is “Hellish Walk,” the luminous work that brings back the charm of a walk through the flames. Finally, in Piazza Barcaroli, in the heart of the historic center, but also visible from Piazza Tarsetti, is “The Symbol,” the installation that illuminates the land art work, which tells the story of our territory through symbols.
In Piazza Romagnoli, you can sit on the lovers’ bench for a souvenir selfie from the most romantic village in the Marche.
The panoramic Federico I Tower (Barbarossa) awaits lovers at sunset, the most magical moment in the village to experience unforgettable emotions. Photography lovers cannot help but dedicate a shot to it and visit the permanent exhibition of Mario Giacomelli at the Utensilia Museum (open Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM–12:00 PM / 4:00 PM–7:00 PM).
At Bar Monica, in Piazza Tarsetti, a special corner awaits lovers for a romantic aperitif (Info and reservations at 339 2166399), while the wineries prepare special gift packages dedicated to Valentine’s Day.
It is certain that the warm and enveloping heart of Morro d’Alba has Cupid among its most frequent visitors, who enjoys launching his passionate darts amidst glasses of wine, music, and magical atmospheres. All that remains is to surrender to the charm of the village and the intoxicating seduction that only Love and Passion can bestow.
